Dry needling is a modern technique designed to ease muscular pain and is growing in popularity. During dry needling your therapist inserts filiform needles into your skin and underlying tissues. A filiform needle is a short, very fine, stainless steel needle and no fluid is injected hence the term ‘dry’. Your therapist may use acupuncture/dry needling to reduce pain by stimulating the brain to produce natural pain relieving chemicals which help enhance the body’s natural healing processes. At The Physio Company Glasgow we rarely use this treatment in isolation however it may be beneficial for certain individuals.
Acupuncture and dry needling have been shown to be effective treatments for pain relief in low back pain, knee pain, neck pain and headaches and for some chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia.
